,

Thanks so much for continuing to be here.

Week two... that's like second date/third date territory, right?

A lil' throwback Thursday today:

This article was my first opinion piece for Fast Company.

In it, I talked about a book that I think should be on every single entrepreneur's bookshelf.

It's a fairly recent release, and it's also a book that hopefully sums up the vibe of this newsletter.

The book?

Deep Work by Dr. Cal Newport.

Dr. Newport, a professor of computer science at Georgetown, is well known for his "Quit Social Media" TEDx talk.

His work challenges the notion that you have to have social media in order to build a great career or a strong network.

More importantly, Newport says your ability to do deep work is a career skill that will appreciate in value as the world becomes more and more distracted. 📈

It's getting harder and harder to focus online. By cultivating deep work, you'll get more of the important stuff done.

This isn't about productivity or doing more; it's about doing the stuff that actually moves the needle.

The assets you create through deep work – great offers, helpful content, win/win relationships – will give you an edge.

Deep Work gives you permission to do less and focus on things that will actually move the needle.

This isn't an anti-social media newsletter, per se.

But I want you to feel empowered to use less (or no) social media in your business if you so choose. It's achievable.

Check out my takeaways from Deep Work in Fast Company right here.
